The Artist:

Born in Venezuela, Tony Breuer has moved throughout the world, collecting ideas and inspiration from his various travels. Educated at Princeton University, Oxford University, and Harvard Medical School, Breuer actively pursued an interest in molecular neurobiology and brain function.

This curiosity in the subcellular level and in the unseen led ultimately to the study of fine arts. In 1992 he received a BFA from the University of Southern Indiana and in 2003 an MFA from East Carolina University. At USI, Breuer studied under the direction of Katie Waters and at ECU under the direction of Paul Hartley, Leland Wallin, Scott Eagle and Ray Elmore.

For Breuer, “still-life” is not. Because the earth (and our solar system and our galaxy and all galaxies) are all constantly moving, everything in and on them is also moving. Breuer’s art captures this sense of constant motion as he continues to experiment and search for a new way of seeing in spacetime.

Breuer combines the conscious and the unconscious in a multi-layered matrix of colors and recognizable shapes. Feeling about the spiritual aspects of life, visualizing, and thinking about how things really look is one thing, rendering the outcome of this process in two dimensions is another. The latter, a different way of seeing, is what his paintings are all about.

Only the hand that erases can write the true thing. - Meister Eckert

It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare, it is because we do not dare that they are difficult.
– Seneca
